Euro (F/Qualifs) : A formality for the Blues?

The draw for the qualifications of the 2027 Women’s Eurobasket took place on Tuesday, and France will face Great Britain, Ukraine, and Luxembourg starting in November.

The French women’s basketball team has not missed a Euro since 1997, and it would take a real catastrophe for that to happen thirty years later. The team now knows their qualifying group for Euro 2027, which will be held in Belgium, Finland, Lithuania, and Sweden, and it is quite manageable. The players of Jean-Aimé Toupane, who finished fourth at Euro 2025 (considered a failure), will face Great Britain, Ukraine, and Luxembourg in Group M. While the British team ranked 14th in the last Euro, the Ukrainians and Luxembourgers were not qualified.

To kick off their campaign, the French team will play at home against Great Britain on November 11, 2026, a team that France has beaten 12 out of 13 times since their first meeting in 1968. The last match was at Euro 2023, where France won by six points. Three days later, they will play against Luxembourg away from home, the first time since 1989 when France won 108-54. Then on November 17, the vice Olympic champions will play in Ukraine (or likely on neutral ground), a team they have beaten seven out of nine times, the last in Euro 2023 qualifiers (109-88). The return matches will take place in February 2027, and the top two of each group will directly qualify for the Euro.

Before these qualifiers, the team will compete in the World Cup in Germany in September, with high ambitions, as long as WNBA players (most of the French team) adapt quickly. The WNBA season will pause from August 31st to September 16th, while the World Cup will be held from September 4th to 13th.
