The movie fans who attended the event on Thursday, March 26 at the community hall of Louze/Rives dervoises were greeted by Antoine Mularczuk, the regional leader of Ciné-Ligue. He offered them small pieces of film strips, all different, on the occasion of the monthly screening of Ciné-Rives which showcased the film “The Return of the Projectionist”, filmed in the Caucasus, where an old projectionist dusts off his old projector that used to show 35 mm films in tiny theaters, dreaming of reopening the cinema in his village.
A different era, but the goal of regularly sharing images in the countryside resonated with members of the local association who share these values.
In Louze, the audience rediscovered the old reel projector that had been used for many years, now displayed in the heritage section of the League of Education in Reims, replaced twelve years ago by a silent digital device controlled by a computer, with recent films being released in digital format and older films being transformed into digital versions.
The memories of the audience were brought back to the minds of the elderly who reminisced about the continuous clicks of the film running through a complex circuit in the projector, the inevitable pause during reel changes or film repairs, which sometimes happened. The screenings took place in small community halls, where the audience shared their emotions on non-padded seats. Or it was the Thursday’s Patronage which presented images under the auspices of the communal hall.
In Montier, before the Saint-Berchaire hall, the screenings took place in the current corridor of the media library, on the second floor of the former town hall, and currently, it is the performance hall of the socio-cultural center equipped with a modern projection room that welcomes movie fans or the auditorium of the Halle au Blé.
