Women are increasingly speaking out to denounce the violence they have suffered. These testimonies help to break the silence and change the shame associated with it. Some actresses are among those voices that rise up to denounce sexual violence and control mechanisms, especially in the film industry. Judith Godrèche is one of them, recounting the relationship she endured at the age of 14 with the 40-year-old director Benoît Jacquot.
Later on, she accused the director Jacques Doillon of sexually assaulting her twice when she was a minor. Juliette Binoche also faced such violence. During the filming of a scene from “Rendez-vous” by André Téchiné in 1985, she revealed that an actor touched her inappropriately. She expressed regret that she did not react at the time.
Juliette Binoche shared her experiences of abuse starting from a very young age. In first grade, a teacher made her read near his desk while touching her inappropriately. At 11 years old, she encountered another perpetrator who kissed her and started touching her until someone intervened. At 18, a director cornered her against a wall to kiss her, but she firmly said no.
Now at the age of 62, Juliette Binoche has become more assertive. She revealed an incident where a male actor unexpectedly kissed her breast during a love scene directed by a woman. Despite feeling shocked and disrespected, she did not speak up. In a previous interview, she disclosed the name of a director, Pascal Kané, who tried to kiss her at the beginning of her career after showing her a river view, to which she firmly rejected his advance.
Binoche continues to denounce such behavior openly and without hesitation.
