On Saturday, March 21, 2026, music was celebrated at the Avel Vor space in Plougastel-Daoulas, thanks to the Astérie social center. During the “Music in Family” event, instruments were made available, and creation and open stage attracted about a hundred people with a clear goal: to inspire vocations. And there is no age limit for this to happen.
Elisabeth Proux performed there for the first time on the saxophone. At 82 years old, she recalls a life filled with piano, organ, keyboard, flute, and singing. She discovered the saxophone fifteen or twenty years ago. The instrument was suggested to her by a music conductor. “I hesitated and then picked up the saxophone.”
“I didn’t start music early, but I got my revenge!”
The story could have ended there, if Elisabeth had not rediscovered her taste for the reed during a workshop organized by Astérie at the Bocal à Musique a few weeks ago. Barely giving her wind instrument a rest, the octogenarian went to buy her own saxophone. She presented it to the visitors on Saturday before performing a few pieces because, for her, transmission is at the heart of musical practice: “I didn’t start music early, but I got my revenge! We must encourage people to be musicians!”
