Patrick Bruel faces two complaints and is accused by eight women of sexual violence

The singer and actor Patrick Bruel is at the center of a huge scandal today. Two complaints have been filed against him, while eight women share chilling testimonies in an investigation published by Mediapart. Serious accusations that the artist firmly denies. On March 12, 29 years after the alleged events, Daniela Elstner filed a complaint for attempted rape and sexual assault. Now 56, the president of Unifrance described a particularly violent scene that allegedly took place in 1997, during the French film festival in Acapulco, Mexico.

She recounted being “in a car, with closed doors, with a man who was jumping on [her], forcibly kissing [her], undressing [her], touching [her] chest and the rest of [her] body”. She also claimed that the singer then took her to his hotel room, where she was “screaming”, “fighting back”, before managing to escape. Another presumed victim filed a complaint, this time for rape. According to Mediapart, a preliminary investigation is underway, led by the prosecutor’s office of Saint-Malo. The alleged events date back to the fall of 2012, during the British Film Festival in Dinard, of which the singer was the jury president.

Several celebrities respond to the accusations against Patrick Bruel

More testimonies are adding weight to the case. A woman, who was 15 at the time of the alleged incident, recalls a forced kiss that occurred in 1992, while she was attending the US Open. She explained that he suddenly approached her and cornered her against an elevator wall to try to kiss her. This is not the first time Patrick Bruel has faced such accusations. In 2019, two masseuses working in luxury spas had already denounced inappropriate behaviors. The case was closed in 2020 due to insufficient evidence.

This statement quickly sparked reactions in the artistic community. Director Andréa Bescond expressed her support and shared an anecdote on Instagram. “I remember that in 2022, you crashed a feminist festival party where I was a jury member, you played the victim because I refused to come, I boycotted you and you went to a party in my hotel room,” she wrote. She then accused the artist of “drooling” on her “all over Paris”. This post was commented on by other celebrities, such as Enora Malagré who stated “see, we know” or Anouchka Delon who wrote “forcing on everyone”. Alexandra Lamy also mentioned that she was present at this “after party”. Her daughter, Chloé Jouannet, also shared information about the accusations against Patrick Bruel on Instagram stories, with a clear message: “Finally.”
