Therefore, he decided to open his own shop in Bordeaux in 1981. Then, in 1986, he moved to Rue Bouffard and added three other stores dedicated to drums, wind instruments, and guitars. “I was setting up in the antique museum!” he says with humor.
Chief conductor The arrival of Virgin Megastore with its huge music section could have scared the businessman. On the contrary, he resisted. “I knew people would prefer small places.” A winning bet. To be even closer to the customers, he decided to open a 100-square-meter space dedicated entirely to music in Bacalan, in the last hangar on the docks, now closed: Prima musical. “This new space attracted music enthusiasts of all ages, amateurs or professionals from the surrounding areas.” It offered the full range of products that Michel Brochard separately proposed in his downtown stores.
Like a conductor, he managed both small ensembles with his specialized shops on Rue Bouffard and a large orchestra with his space in Bacalan. He wanted people, especially young people, to see, touch, play, and take ownership of the instruments in each location.
