Since 2022, the enthusiasm for cinema in the Breton language continues to grow. With more than 12,730 admissions recorded in previous editions, the 2026 project now relies on a strong network: 80 screening venues, including 49 partner cinemas distributed in historical Brittany (including Loire-Atlantique).
Supported by the Region and the departments, this initiative goes beyond strict school boundaries. For Elen Rubin, director of Daoulagad Breizh, the stakes are also social: “It’s a great opportunity to bring together bilingual students from the same area to share a moment of pleasure and exchange in Breton.” The approach is intended to be cinematic, educational, and linguistic.
Context:
- The project aims to promote the Breton language and culture through cinema, targeting children of all ages.
- Various organizations and institutions are involved in supporting the initiative.
“The goal is clear: show children that Breton is not just a classroom language, but also a language of culture and entertainment. Gaëlle Larvol, from the association Raok, emphasizes the importance of these meetings, which allow students from public, catholic, and Diwan schools to interact outside the school walls.
To accompany this immersion, Daoulagad Breizh designs specific educational tools to allow teachers to extend the film experience in the classroom.
