The Jean-Petit school experienced a rare and enriching musical interlude. As part of the Pablo Casals festival, director Sandra Mascrè wanted to bring classical music closer to the students by inviting a virtuoso to perform at the school. This initiative was enthusiastically welcomed by the principal Pascal Marsan and the musician Claude Roger.

In Prades, where the legacy of Pablo Casals still resonates strongly, this event took on great significance. “This is not the first time we have connected with classical music,” the principal pointed out, highlighting the ongoing work done around the artist’s life, including visits to the dedicated museum. But this time, live music came to the children.

Cellist Guillem Vega, trained at the Paris conservatory and performing with orchestras in Radio France, Paris, and Nice, came to present his instrument with passion and simplicity. In front of attentive students, he explained what a cello is, before revealing its depth through several pieces, including Camille Saint-Saëns’s “Le Cygne” and Pablo Casals’s moving “Cant dels ocells.”

It was a precious, touching encounter that captivated both young and old. Everyone left enchanted, with a few exceptional notes ringing in their ears, perhaps sparking a budding vocation. As Pascal Marsan beautifully concluded: “The school is also a place where passions can blossom, and where, perhaps, a future virtuoso lies dormant among the students.”
