On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the French Association of Art House Cinema (AFCAE) and in partnership with Les Écrans du Sud, the Gérard-Philipe space in Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône offers several events in April, including three films in preview on April 12, 13, and 27.
It will start with “Maquisards,” the new film by Christian Philibert, which will be screened on Sunday, April 12 at 7 pm, in the presence of the director. The film chronicles the epic story of the largest maquis in the Var region during the Second World War. The director follows a theatrical re-enactment project involving a group of seven young people from different local missions in the Var, of the same age as those who joined the maquis in 1944. Over time, the project evolves into a human adventure where the history of theatrical creation and that of the maquis blend together.
Memorial Work
With this work at the crossroads of fiction and documentary, based on memory work and historical transmission, Christian Philibert continues his deeply rooted work in the South of France, steeped in History. Film enthusiasts will be able to meet the director of “Les 4 saisons d’Espigoule” and chat with him in the auditorium and at the bar after the screening.
The next day at 6:30 pm, still as part of art house cinema, the traditional “surprise film” will be presented, an exclusive preview that spectators will discover at the last moment and discuss after the showing.
On Monday, April 27 at 6:30 pm, “Precious(es)” will be screened in the presence of the director Fany Guirard-Norel. By adapting Molière’s “Les Précieuses ridicules” with her students, Cécile thought she was rehabilitating the Preciouses, these first feminists of the 17th century unjustly forgotten. She never imagined that this project would lead her to break out of her own insidious invisibility…
Three appointments are scheduled at the Gérard-Philipe space, on Avenue Gabriel-Péri: Sunday, April 12 at 7 pm with the screening of “Maquisards” in the presence of the director, Monday, April 13 at 6:30 pm for a surprise film, and Monday, April 27 at 6:30 pm with “Precious(es)” in the presence of the director; the screenings are offered at the usual rate, with reservations recommended (www.scenesetcines.fr).
