Matt Damon has been a committed heart for over twenty years. Behind one of Hollywood’s strongest marriages lies a story that resembles more of a romantic comedy than a typical celebrity scenario: that of a famous actor falling in love with an Argentine bartender in a Miami bar.
Luciana Barroso was born on July 31, 1976 in Buenos Aires. Far from the sets and red carpets, she was completely unknown in the entertainment world when destiny crossed her path with the American star. “I was lucky, I fell in love with a civilian. Not an actress, let alone a famous actress,” he told Esquire magazine in 2013.
Love at first sight in a Miami bar
It’s 2003. Matt Damon is filming Stuck on You, a comedy in Florida. One evening, the crew stops at a bar. Behind the bar, Luciana is serving. To escape his fans, the actor sneaks behind the bar, grabs a cloth, and starts washing glasses, wiping the counter, serving customers alongside the woman who would become his wife.
A connection is born in this unlikely dance. “I literally saw her across a crowded room, literally,” he recounted in 2011 on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Two years later, in December 2005 in New York, the couple said “I do” in an intimate civil ceremony. Discretion is already their signature. Among the few present: Alexia, Luciana’s daughter from a previous relationship. A stepfather role that Matt Damon embraces without hesitation.
Matt Damon and his wife’s rule
Since their marriage, the couple has welcomed three daughters: Isabella (2006), Gia (2008), and Stella (2010). Four children, a family life away from the flashes. And above all, the lovebirds have set a rule that speaks volumes about their priorities: never spend more than two weeks apart.
“I am still married, still working, still happy,” summed up Matt Damon to Parade. It goes to show that the most casual encounters can give rise to a beautiful blended family.
