The short film festival “Carpentras fait son cinéma,” scheduled to start at the end of April, has been postponed, announced the organizers. They explained that the change in municipal leadership a few weeks before the event complicated the organization.

The seventh edition of the festival “Carpentras fait son cinéma” will not take place from April 28 to May 2, 2026, as originally planned. In a statement, the organizers explained that the change in mayor a few weeks before the event led to logistical constraints that make it impossible to hold the festival under good conditions.

On May 22, 2026, Hervé de La Penãu, from the National Rally, was elected mayor of Carpentras, succeeding the left-wing Serge Andrieu. However, it was the outgoing municipal team that had committed to providing subsidies for the festival and making premises available for the event. The festival organizers have not yet had the opportunity to meet with the new municipality to discuss the organizational details.

The new municipal team also stated to ICI Vaucluse that the deadline for approving the subsidy was too short for the event to take place at the end of April.

A meeting with the new mayor will take place soon, as the Carpentras fait son cinéma team indicated in their statement. Contacted by ICI Vaucluse, the festival team expressed hope that they would be able to hold the festival and its competition in Carpentras under the same conditions as previous editions.

Regarding the 2026 edition, the organizers assured that it is not canceled but will be postponed to a later date. They also apologized “to the teams that had submitted quality applications and to the people of Carpentras who wanted to participate in the filming and various events organized as part of the festival.”

However, the free concert by Elisa Tovati scheduled for April 30 at the Cabaret will still take place.
