Conference organized by the association Carrefour des Sciences et des Arts.
The double lives of Philippe Laudet: Parisian by birth, Toulousain by adoption. Musician by heart, Martian by garden. Composer, conductor, pianist, and trumpeter by stack, but also an engineer, PhD in astrophysics, and project manager by face. In 2011, his double lives intersect. The French space agency, CNES, entrusts him with coordinating the development of an important scientific instrument that France has committed to delivering to NASA for the Martian mission InSight, launched in 2018. In March 2019, it’s released. The instrument, a seismometer, is operational on the surface of the red planet. Mission accomplished! The opportunity for Philippe Laudet to return to his first loves: Astrophysics and Music. As a speaker and popularizer, he presents “The little music of Astrophysics.” Accompanied by a piano and a trumpet which set up his musical universe, he tells us about the other Universe, the real one, that of stars, galaxies, and invites us to question the relationship between Music and Astrophysics, as well as the significant questions that the little music of Astrophysics whispers in our ear: What is our place in this Universe? Are we alone? What view could extraterrestrials have on earthlings-extras? Do they learn solfeggio before starting the instrument?
