From April 9 to 12, 2026, the city of Agde will host the first edition of the Festival Pages & Images, a unique event dedicated to the many connections between literature and cinema.
Novels, mangas, comics, video games, and heritage works: all forms of adaptation will be highlighted through a rich and immersive program.
Designed as a true space for dialogue between the arts, the festival offers the public reading performances, meetings with authors and filmmakers, conferences, as well as immersive experiences inviting everyone to become actors of the works.
Among the highlights of this first edition, the bookstore La Promenade au Phare stands out with several significant events.
Starting on Thursday, April 9 at 7pm, an evening dedicated to William Shakespeare will kick off the festivities, with a conference led by Nathalie Vienne Guerrin, a professor in Shakespearean studies at the University Paul-Valéry in Montpellier and president of the European Shakespeare Research Association. The event will continue at the cinema Le Travelling with the screening of the film Hamnet by Chloé Zhao. A catering service is also available in partnership with La Fabrik, by reservation.
On Saturday, April 11, the public can attend a live reading by Corinne Calmels of the novel L’intimité d’Alice Ferney at the cinema, the origin of the film L’Attachement, before its screening. The evening will continue with a literary aperitif at the bookstore.
The cinema Le Travelling will also host several key events throughout the festival. On Friday, April 10, an immersive evening around The Great Gatsby will immerse the audience in the atmosphere of the Roaring Twenties, with the presence of pianist Philippe Cauchi-Pomponi, dancers, and vintage vehicles, before the screening of Baz Luhrmann’s film.
Sunday, April 12 will offer a dense program: a preview of the film Les Goûteuses d’Hitler preceded by a historical context by Christine Delpous, a screening of Wuthering Heights accompanied by a dance performance, and The Speech, introduced by an analysis of the literary adaptation by Karim Ghiyati, director of the cinema pole Occitanie Culture.
In total, around ten cinema sessions are offered during these four days. Those without specific animations will be accompanied by short immersive readings by Corinne Calmels, creating a direct link between text and image.
Organized by the association Bouillon de Lecture, the bookstore La Promenade au Phare, and the cinema Le Travelling, the Festival Pages & Images is aimed at all audiences and aims to renew the way we look at works, by crossing disciplines and sensitivities.
