The Human Rights Collective is organizing a screening of the film “First Lessons” on Tuesday, April 7th at the Le Relief cinema in Séléstat.
The film is a moving Ukrainian documentary that shows war through the eyes of children.
With “First Lessons,” Kateryna Gornostai delivers a documentary of rare intensity.
By portraying the school as a fragile space of resistance, she captures the constant tension between childlike innocence and the noise of war. Each shot reveals a poignant dignity of teachers who continue their lessons despite the ongoing challenges.
With the association Colmar Ukraine, the dedication to the director’s brother adds a personal depth to this collective testimony. More than just a film about Ukraine, it is a universal ode to education as the last line of defense against war.
The discussion will be led by representatives from the Colmar Ukraine association. Due to the length of the documentary (2 hours and 5 minutes), the screening will start at 8:00 pm instead of the usual 8:30 pm.
Film screening and discussion of “First Lessons” on Tuesday, April 7th at 8:00 pm at Le Relief cinema, route de Strasbourg in Séléstat.
