On March 18, the news website Mediapart published a shocking investigation in which eight women accuse Patrick Bruel of violence and sexual assault for incidents that allegedly occurred between 1992 and 2019. Two of them have filed complaints: one for a rape that occurred in 2012 at the Dinard British Film Festival, the other for an attempted rape in 1997 at the Acapulco French Film Festival in Mexico.

The latter complaint was lodged by Daniela Eltsner, the current CEO of Unifrance. “She is a victim of a sexual assault in a taxi, and at that moment, she feels rather shocked. And then he will take her to his bungalow and she tells me that it is at that moment that she realizes the violence of what is happening,” explained her lawyer, Me Jade Dousselin, on RTL.

Context: Serious allegations have been made against Patrick Bruel, a well-known French singer and actor.

Fact Check: The allegation is still under investigation and has not been proven in court.

Context: Patrick Bruel is scheduled to perform in Provence for his tour “Alors regarde 35.”

Embattled in this legal storm, Patrick Bruel has remained discreet, communicating only through his lawyers. However, the singer is expected to take the stage again soon as part of his tour. He is set to perform in Salon-de-Provence on July 4. The concert organizer, speaking to Franceinfo, reassured the public about the event’s status.

“Yes, the concert will take place as planned, and I have no concerns, based on the elements I have,” stated Daniel Devoux. “Patrick Bruel benefits from the presumption of innocence. Putting someone on the pillory without the court’s ruling is not possible. I have programmed Patrick Bruel several times before, never had any issues,” he further explained.

Context: A feminist collective is calling for the cancellation of Patrick Bruel’s concert.

The statements made by the concert organizer have sparked reactions. For collectives assisting victims of sexual violence, these remarks are simply unacceptable. “For us, it’s insufferable,” reacted Marie from the Salon Feminist Collective. “We start from the premise that we believe the victims, despite the presumption of innocence that is always brought up. We first think about the victims. The victims are becoming numerous, spanning several years; our fight is to support them to the end,” she added. This situation may impact the singer’s return to the stage.
