Celebrities must leave the locker rooms

Hyam faces some big challenges in the coming weeks, both with his club and the national team, and he explained to the Daily Record how he and Wrexham have approached pursuing their collective dreams: “Maybe subconsciously. I largely managed to ignore all of that.

As captain, there is a lot of noise, there is always something happening at Wrexham. It’s Hollywood, but we have a job to do, we are professional footballers.

And there comes a time when the cameras have to leave and the celebrities have to leave the locker room. So there are a lot of things that go hand in hand with Wrexham, but we are professionals and we have a job to do. The owners have not talked about the World Cup, not at all. We are focused on one thing. It would be great for me and for the club, but one match at a time.”

Hyam added, as Wrexham seeks to secure a fourth consecutive promotion that would break all records: “We have something to fight for – there are seven crucial games left and I hope we can qualify for the playoffs. Reaching the World Cup and the Premier League would probably be the pinnacle.

“There is still a lot of work and ups and downs to come, that’s for sure. So I’m not going to get carried away, but it goes without saying that it’s the dream. I like to think that nothing would destabilize me. I will only know once I’m there, but these are the games you dream of participating in. I’m trying to imagine what the 10 or 11-year-old boy that I was would have thought if he had played on the national stage, after just making his debut in the first team. I will just let that idea sink in.”
