In Guadeloupe, music is everywhere

The chronicle of Estelle-Sarah Bulle
In Guadeloupe, music is everywhere. It is part of the spirit of the island and is one of the tools that allows the population to connect, to feel united. I am currently residing in Maison Coquille in Basse-Terre, which is attached to the music school in the town. At night, when I work in my office with all the windows open, I hear around me the song of frogs and crickets, interrupted by echoes of saxophone and piano. The students are practicing their scales. School starts here between 7 and 7:30 am (it is common for children to wake up well before 6 am to take the bus to their school) and ends at 5 pm. About an hour later, the sun sets. So both parents and children need a boost of energy for all extracurricular activities, including going to music classes offered by conservatories or, more often, by private schools.
