The Slopes of Hell, a documentary about the iconic Vernay vineyard, at the Le Méjan cinema in Arles.

French filmmaker Léo Boudet discovered the world of wine while living with one of his best friends, a Lyon apprentice cellarman. “For me, it’s like a movie, music, or a book; some are nice, entertaining, and from time to time, there are those that touch you inside and shake you up,” compares the director of the documentary film “Les Chaillées de l’enfer,” which premiered in cinemas Le Méjan-Actes Sud on Tuesday, March 31 at 8:30 pm in Arles.

Through tastings and conversations with his roommate about his encounters with winemakers, the desire to dedicate a film to them was born. “Wine documentaries are often quite didactic. I wanted to make a cinematic film with a much more sensitive and human approach, bringing a new light,” explains the son of a press photographer and an audiovisual producer.
