On Sunday, April 12th, at 5pm, the cinema L’Europe will host two renowned concert performers for an original program. Pianist Aurélie Samani and flutist Nathalie Amat combine their talents to bring to light the remarkable work of Mel Bonis, a French composer (1858-1937) heavily influenced by the impressionist movement. Despite living in a patriarchal society that silenced women and facing social constraints in the late 19th century, Melanie Bonis, from a humble background, managed to showcase her undeniable virtuosity by improvising melodies on the family piano. Admitted to the Paris Conservatoire at the age of 18, she struggled to be recognized as an artist in her lifetime due to persistent prejudices. It was finally under the pseudonym Mel Bonis that she was accepted in a predominantly male environment. She succeeded in cultivating her passion for music over the years by composing a repertoire ranging from chamber music to organ pieces with admirable sensitivity. To further explore this unique artist, Aurélie Samani and Nathalie Amat, in addition to performing her works, will tell the story of her musical career, supported by projections on a large screen, in a narrative and illustrative concert format. This event is organized by Ciné Europe, in partnership with the association “Orgue, Culture et Musiques en Val d’Adour”. Admission: adults: €10, children: €5.
