Rescue crews are currently searching for a crew member who fell off a cruise ship near Wellfleet, Massachusetts on Saturday night, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The incident was reported by the Norwegian Breakaway, which captured the crew member falling on a security camera. The ship turned back towards Wellfleet after the incident, and a search operation was launched.
A Coast Guard helicopter and rescue boats were deployed, and the crew member’s last known position was identified. It is still uncertain whether the crew member fell or jumped from the ship. The United States Coast Guard has taken charge of the search and rescue mission and the vessel has been allowed to resume its journey.
Passenger videos revealed two rescue boats near the ship searching the surrounding waters. An entertainer on the ship mentioned hearing the emergency signal for man overboard during a performance. The ship has since returned to Boston from Bermuda. Further updates will be provided by NewsCenter 5 as more information becomes available.
