In Stony Brook, NY, March 27, 2026 – The State University of New York at Stony Brook’s Jackie L. Collier and Pamela A. Abshire were recently named 2025 American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellows.

The AAAS Fellows program, established in 1874, requires nomination by three fellows or the CEO of AAAS to be considered. Nominations go through a review process by the AAAS Council and are then voted on. Achieving the status of an AAAS Fellow is a respected lifetime honor.

Sudip S. Parikh, PhD, CEO of AAAS, praised this year’s fellows for their research excellence, contributions to science, and service to their communities. Fellowships like these highlight the significance of investing in science and technology for society’s benefit.

Collier and Abshire, two distinguished scientists in biosensors and marine science respectively, will be honored at the Fellows Forum on May 29 in Washington, DC during the AAAS Annual Meeting. They will receive a certificate and a blue and gold rosette at the event.

Jackie L. Collier, a professor at Stony Brook University since 2002, expressed gratitude for the recognition of her meaningful contributions to marine microbial ecology. Abshire, chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Stony Brook University, is known for her work in low-power mixed-signal integrated circuits and other areas.

The State University of New York at Stony Brook is a leading research institution dedicated to providing quality education and addressing global challenges. With over 26,000 students, 3,000 faculty members, and a strong athletic program, Stony Brook ranks among the top 71 research institutions in North America as a member of the Association of American Universities. The university has produced esteemed award-winning faculty members and plays a role in running the Brookhaven National Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy.
