Apple has reportedly discontinued the Mac Pro, a desktop computer commonly used by musicians, video editors, and photographers. On Thursday, March 26, the tech company discontinued the tower desktop computer, which had not received an update since 2023, according to Bloomberg and 9to5Mac. It is no longer available on Apple’s website. The computer was priced at $6,999, but it has become outdated in the past three years, as the smaller and less expensive Mac Studio added the M3 Ultra in 2025, according to Bloomberg. USA TODAY has reached out to Apple for more information.
The Mac Pro was used for video editing, 3D animation, music editing, and other creative hobbies, according to a description on Best Buy’s website. The Mac Pro workstation has been part of Apple’s lineup since it was introduced in 2006 and replaced the Power Mac G5, according to The Verge. The discontinuation of the Mac Pro comes as Apple dropped six new products at the beginning of March, including a new iPhone and iPad.
Apple announced the release of the new iPhone 17e and the iPad Air with M4 on Monday, March 2, according to USA TODAY’s previous reporting. The tech company also released more details on the following products: MacBook Neo – a 13-inch laptop starting at $599, MacBook Pro with M5, M5 Pro or M5 Max – A laptop starting at $1,699, MacBook Air with M5 – A laptop starting at $1,099, Studio Display – A 27-inch 5K Retina display that has a built-in camera, spatial audio, and other features, Studio Display XDR – 27-inch 5K Retina display with MINI-LED backlight and other features.
