In the next season of the series “Bridgerton,” a homosexual couple will take center stage in the plot. Netflix has confirmed this with a brief and enigmatic teaser that has sparked excitement among fans.
A simple gesture, barely a second long, has sent the internet into a frenzy. On March 25, Netflix unveiled a short teaser for season 5 of “Bridgerton.”
In this teaser, Francesca, now a widow after the events of season 4, is seen touching hands with Michaela Stirling, her late husband’s cousin. There is no dialogue, no context, just a gesture that has raised numerous questions.
As reported by The Guardian, the streaming platform has indeed confirmed that a homosexual love story will be central to the upcoming season.
Recall that season 4 ended dramatically for Francesca, who was left alone and grieving after the sudden death of her husband, John Stirling.
Netflix’s introduction of Michaela, a reimagined version of the male character Michael from Julia Quinn’s novels, had already sparked reactions, with some seeing it as a clear move towards adapting the story into a queer romance. This perspective was supported by executive producer Jess Brownell:
“I feel like Bridgerton has built its reputation on its inclusive universe, and it would seem unfair to exclude queer stories.”
One thing is certain: with just a few images, Netflix has once again centered “Bridgerton” in conversations, even as season 4 has just been released. It proves that a simple gesture can stir the hearts of fans.
