It’s the third season of Histoires et Crapahutes for the Gardois. With an almost exclusively female lineup, three films will compete for the audience award. The festival is touring France and will stop in Alès on April 10 at Cinéplanet and in Nîmes on May 12 at Kinepolis.

For this third edition, the festival is extending to Switzerland, where the films will also be screened. During each session, the three documentaries will be presented over approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes, including time for discussion with one of the festival’s creators. The festival aims to highlight not just hiking, but also underlying themes in the documentaries such as self-discovery, ecology, and exploration.

    Outstanding Films

This year’s contenders include “Une montagne d’espoir” directed by Nicolas Lebenbojm. The film follows two women on their journey in Nepal, who have developed a strong bond. Dorothée, a nurse, and Typhany, who has psychiatric disorders, have taken on the challenge of climbing the Thorong Pass together. Dorothée, who is also a mountain guide, believes that hiking can help with psychiatric disorders.

Next is “Un sentier à soi” directed by Judith Laloy, Colline Briard, and Marion De Windt. This documentary follows these three women as they venture along the paths of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. We gradually discover their stories, doubts, and beliefs.

To conclude the lineup, the film “Via Alpina, sur les pas de pionnières” produced by Zoé Lemaitre follows the young Zoé as she spends several months in the Alps. During this journey, she meets professional women in the mountains. Over four months of solitude, she completes her route from Slovenia to Monaco. At the end of each session, the audience will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite documentary and help it secure the top spot.
