Paul Pogba played with Monaco against Brentford U23s on Thursday. The Frenchman took the opportunity to score his first goal for the Principality club.
The 2018 World Cup champion Paul Pogba (33 years old), who has been absent from the field for three months due to a calf injury, played and scored on Thursday in a friendly match with Monaco against Brentford’s U23 team, according to the club. The match took place on Thursday morning against the English club Brentford’s U23 team at La Turbie’s performance center.
Despite the loss (2-1), Sébastien Pocognoli was able to see different players from his squad who had been long-term injured return to play, such as Paul Pogba and the English international central defender Eric Dier. Starting Pogba played the first 25 minutes of the match and scored the only goal of the first half before making way for the young Boubakar Dembaga, as planned.
Fati, Dier, and Biereth were also present
“Paul will use these two weeks of international break to develop within the planned medical scheme and return to collective training,” Pocognoli indicated last week before specifying, “It all depends on these two weeks to set a return date to competition.” Captain for this match, Eric Dier played 60 minutes, as did the forwards Ansu Fati and Mika Biereth, who have been lacking game time lately. Finally, Pape Cabral and Kassoum Ouattara, who have also been out with long-term injuries, played one half.
There are no other friendly matches planned for Monaco before the next Ligue 1 matchday, on Sunday, April 5, against Marseille. Pogba, who has only played 30 minutes in Ligue 1 this season, has not appeared in competition for Monaco since December 5th and the away match against Brest.
