The 6th season of Big Brother Canada ends on Sunday. Ahead of the grand finale, content producer David Gauthier revealed seven production secrets never before shared about the popular reality show!
1. Finding the contestants, a 365-day process Searching for the contestants who will inhabit the big house is an important and lengthy process for the Big Brother team: “Throughout the year, we approach the world,” says David Gauthier. Even though the seventh season has yet to be confirmed, production has already begun thinking about the next stars. Celebrations begin as soon as a participant accepts the invitation.
2. Mona, the hardest contestant to catch Viewers were surprised to see Mona de Grenoble back in the game! Many had initially thought she was a replacement choice at the beginning of the season. However, her presence on the show was carefully planned. David mentions that it took a lot of effort to ensure her participation, as she had many performance dates on her schedule. According to him, Mona was the toughest contestant of this season.
3. Why the keys? How do they come up with so many twists and challenges? David Gauthier and his partner Mathieu Ouellet work together to create a different story each year. This season, the idea of keys came to them first, and the concept continued to grow over time.
4. Twists are planned before filming begins As Big Brother Canada is a game that requires many technical elements, everything is planned from the beginning. David Gauthier reveals that the producer knew from the start that there was a hotel room to reserve when Felix got his redemption. These are not things that can be decided on a whim, and they are established from the start.
5. Already an idea for a theme for a future season David’s brain never stops producing ideas. Even though it is not yet known if Big Brother Canada will return next year, the content producer already has a theme in mind. He describes it as mysterious and dangerous.
6. Why we didn’t know Oussama had the key to the second life Oussama shocked the contestants by revealing he had the key to the second life. David explains that it didn’t make sense to reveal it earlier, as it would have made the week predictable once it was known he was in danger.
7. Challenges must be tested by the production Big Brother Canada has complete warehouses of decor and game modules. Although some challenges return each season, new ones are introduced every edition. Before a challenge can take place, the entire production team tests it to calculate how long it will take. Security is also considered when creating challenges.
