Donald Trump announced on Thursday, March 26, that he is postponing his ultimatum until April 6 for possible American strikes against power plants in Iran. According to the U.S. president, discussions with the Iranian regime are going “very well.”

The conflict in the Middle East continues. Donald Trump has once again delayed his ultimatum for possible American strikes against power plants in Iran (until April 6). According to the American president, discussions with the Iranian regime are going “very well.” Meanwhile, Israel has “eliminated” the chief of the Revolutionary Guards’ navy. Lebanon, where at least five people have been killed in new strikes, has announced it is taking the matter to the UN Security Council due to Israeli actions that “threaten” its sovereignty. Here are the key events from Thursday, March 26.

Donald Trump postpones his ultimatum and discusses discussions with Iran

Donald Trump announced he is postponing his ultimatum until April 6 for possible American strikes against power plants in Iran, stating that discussions with Tehran are going “very well.” However, he did not specify what conditions need to be met by then. This is not the first time the American president has delayed his ultimatum.

Meanwhile, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff stated that there are “strong signals” of a potential agreement with the Iranians, confirming that Washington had presented Tehran with a 15-point plan for ceasing hostilities through Pakistan.

Lebanon takes the matter to the UN Security Council

Lebanon, where at least five people have been killed in new strikes, has announced it is taking the matter to the UN Security Council following Israeli actions that “threaten” its sovereignty. After a governmental meeting, Information Minister Paul Morcos specified that this decision was motivated by “the bombing of most bridges over the Litani”, a river separating parts of southern Lebanon from the rest of the country, “the massive forced displacement of residents,” and “the advance of Israeli troops on Lebanese territory, accompanied by destruction.”

Israel says it has “eliminated” the chief of the Revolutionary Guards’ navy

Israeli Defense Minister IsraAurl Katz announced that the army had “eliminated” Iranian Revolutionary Guards navy commander Alireza Tangsiri in a video released by his office. Other senior naval officers were also killed, according to the Israeli minister. “The man directly responsible for the terrorist operation of mining and blocking the Strait of Hormuz has been pulverized,” he added, promising to “continue to track down the Guardians’ officials, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, one by one.”

Houthi leader warns of possible “military response”

The leader of the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen threatened a “military response” if the situation in the Middle East demands it. The Houthi movement, strategically positioned in the region, has not yet joined the hostilities. “At the slightest development in the conflict requiring a military response, we will intervene without delay (…) as we have done in previous phases,” stated Abdel Malek al-Houthi in a speech broadcast by al-Massirah, a TV channel affiliated with his movement. The rebel leader did not specify the type of military action his movement might take.
