The most sought-after Frenchman in the world, Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, who disappeared after a quintuple family murder in 2011 in Nantes, may have fled to the United States. This lead was revitalized after the broadcast on Wednesday, March 25, of a call from a Texan sheriff’s office regarding Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès.
Since his disappearance, there have been recurrent reports claiming to have spotted the fugitive in various locations that have never been verified.
This time, the Brewster County Sheriff’s Office in Texas posted a call accompanied by several photos of Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, who is now believed to be 65 years old.
Dubbed “XDDL” by the press, he was possibly seen in 2020 in the county, accompanied by a black Labrador, according to the sheriff’s office which urged anyone recognizing him or having information to get in touch.
According to former cyber-police officer Gilles Galloux, author of “Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès, a cop at the heart of the case,” there are still places in the United States where one can remain hidden near the Mexican border.
The Nantes prosecutor’s office stated on Thursday that they had not been informed about the broadcast of this call. “Neither the investigating judge handling the case, nor myself, nor the investigators who have been working on it from the start, were informed of this call from a Texan police service,” said Nantes public prosecutor Antoine Leroy.
Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès is suspected of killing his wife and four children in April 2011, whose bodies were found under the terrace of the family home in Nantes. He has never been found, and it is unknown whether he is dead or on the run.
In 2024, the Nantes prosecutor’s office had reported receiving and investigating over 1,750 reports related to him in France and abroad.
