Hégémonique, the listening of music online? Everywhere on the planet, yes, but not in France, where over 50s are putting up a resistance, preferring CDs, vinyl, radio, or even nothing at all. This is to the chagrin of Spotify, Deezer, and Co. “40% of 55-65-year-olds prefer CDs or vinyl to digital,” explains Maria Garrido, marketing director at Deezer. In these times, one might almost think it’s an extraterrestrial. To discover new music, Patrick, in his fifties, browses the CD section of his library in Perreux-sur-Marne (94) and relies on the choices of the staff. No Deezer or Spotify for him. Firstly, because he associates streaming platforms with a nomadic use: “I don’t particularly like the idea of listening to music on public transport or when I’m jogging,” he insists.
