Aujols was bustling with people this Sunday, March 22. The Gariottes duathlon, despite being 15 years old, has not aged a day. A total of 550 participants were counted, including 320 mountain biking enthusiasts and 230 walkers and trail runners. Starting at 7:30 a.m., the registration team was ready, and after a quick overview of their route (with four maps available), everyone could start their chosen challenge at their own pace, with distances ranging from 20 to 60 km for the mountain biking routes. From 9 to 10 a.m., the flow of participants intensified, and after the free starts for the 8 or 14 km walks, it was time for the trail runs of various distances (starting at 10 a.m. from the lake area). Throughout their routes, participants enjoyed refreshment stations, as well as the numerous heritage elements, including the multiple gariottes. It is worth noting the presence of local associations like Le Mille Pattes de Lalbenque or Les Extrapédestres de Cahors. A delegation of 14 members from the departmental union of firefighters from Lot came to support and prepare for the regional event. Finally, the FCLF, who organized this sports event expertly, also supported the association “Pauline pas à pas” with a donation of 200 euros. Jean-François Cubaynes, the new deputy mayor of Aujols, supervised a very successful event. The only downside: the scattered state of the site and parking difficulties.
