On March 24, the NBC Los Angeles channel dedicated part of its news program to Marlene Willis, the mother of the famous actor of the same name, who celebrated her 22 years of volunteer service with the LAPD. At the station, she is simply known as “Mrs. Willis,” but what gives away Marlene Willis is the screensaver on her computer that shows her with her son, Bruce Willis. On March 24, at 90 years old, the actor’s mother received honors from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Named “volunteer of the year,” she also received her own symbolic police badge. “I cannot call her a police officer, but I can at least offer her the most powerful symbol of what it means to be a police officer: the badge of the Law Center police service,” explained the former LAPD chief to NBC Los Angeles channel. Interestingly, this former chief is named Moore, like Demi Moore, Bruce Willis’s ex-wife.

Context: Marlene Willis, the mother of actor Bruce Willis, was recognized for her 22 years of volunteer work with the LAPD on NBC Los Angeles.

Fact Check: Marlene Willis was given a symbolic police badge and was referred to as an “icon” by the LAPD.

This recognition towards Marlene Willis crowns 22 years of volunteer work. Currently, the nonagenarian volunteers her free time to the LAPD every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to review police reports, check grammar, and take notes. “I have so, so much desire to help,” she said on television, sporting a black streak in her white hair. “You cannot imagine how much I want to help.” She also provides support by embracing the officers when they return to the police station after facing a difficult situation.

If Bruce Willis has portrayed many heroes on the big screen, his mother, on the other hand, “is an integral part of West Los Angeles and the LAPD,” declared Captain Rich Gabaldon, commanding officer of the West LA precinct. “She is an icon here.”
