Mireille Damiano, the head of the Nice Front Populaire list (LFI-NPA) in the municipal elections of March 15 and 22, believes that “culture is not a budget decoration or weekend entertainment” but “a cement capable of restoring social ties, citizen dignity, and public service.”

After criticizing “institutional vandalism with the demolitions of TNN and Acropolis,” “disregard for creation and the condition of artists,” “millions of euros swallowed up in red carpets of ephemeral events,” and “folklorization of the Nissard language and culture,” she presented a strategy to “free access to culture.”

Their project includes creating “citizen houses,” which are spaces for creation, dissemination, scientific popularization, and social mixing, a “scientific and technical cultural center,” an “archives center and LGBTQIA+ cultures,” and a “pass nissa cultura to facilitate young people’s access to live shows.”

They also plan to “transform the 17 AnimaNice,” “make the Carnival free for the residents of the Metropolis,” and “support independent carnivals and festival committees organizing them in neighborhoods.”

Their list advocates for “excellence for all.” They aim to deploy symphony orchestras in areas like Ariane, Pasteur, and Moulins, with each child receiving “an instrument and excellent guidance.”

Regarding dance, they will collaborate with the Opera ballet to adapt the Demos pedagogy to the specificities of choreographic discipline.

The candidates refuse the logic of generalized precariousness faced by cultural professionals. They propose “revaluing the indexing of territorial agents linked to culture” and “ensuring operating budgets for cultural associations for a real anchoring of actions.”

They also focus on “supporting and accompanying artists with disabilities.”

Mireille Damiano and her fellow members want to “organize comprehensive cultural forums to develop and plan an ambitious policy for all audiences.”

For funding, they aim to use labeling to “promote state funding” while “spending better” and “breaking the cycle of disposability.”

Lastly, they plan to “transform Nice into a European laboratory for sustainable scenography.”
