On Wednesday, March 25th, as part of the 12th Festival Migrations in Stiring-Wendel, Esmeralda Conrad will share an initiation to Egyptian oriental dance at the Anciennes Forges space. This event is open to children (from 8 years old), teenagers, and adults. Men are also welcome.

Oriental dance fits perfectly into the festival organized by ASBH, as it aims to raise public awareness about migration realities and combat racist or discriminatory prejudices by promoting the cultural diversity of the region. “When cabarets opened in Cairo in the 1930s, oriental dance evolved. With influences from both American and more recently Chinese cultures, such as the use of fans for example,” explains the dancer who learned from renowned dancers from the Mahmoud Reda, Raqia Hassan, or Mo Geddawi troupe.

By offering an initiation to oriental dance during the festival, we aim to reach out to everyone from an artistic perspective, as dance is a universal language that allows us to discover a part of a culture. “This event is designed to facilitate encounters among residents and create a different moment of sharing,” adds Sarah Erb, the social center’s manager.

The program includes learning basic techniques for executing movements to create a small choreography. “I provide the keys so that even those who are not connected to their bodies can understand certain mechanisms and quickly execute the basic techniques,” details Esmeralda Conrad.
