On Friday, March 27th at 8 p.m., Le Capitole will be hosting a film screening of “Welcome to Europe” with directors Thomas Bornot and Cyril Montana in attendance. The Occitanie Region supports the screening of this documentary as part of their efforts to improve the reception, integration, and professional insertion of international protection beneficiaries (refugees, beneficiaries of subsidiary protection, stateless persons) and asylum seekers in the region. In addition, through their Regional Plan of Action against Racism and Anti-Semitism adopted in 2020, the region works daily to raise awareness among young people, families, educators, elected officials, and local actors about discrimination, stereotypes, and the importance of respect and living together. The second phase of this plan is currently underway and will be voted on by regional officials in June to strengthen and sustain the region’s action against this issue. The film “Welcome to Europe” is a part of this initiative, telling the journey of individuals who have left their country, loved ones, and previous lives from Paris to the borders of Europe. Through their narratives, political and scientific analyses, and the encounter with Yadullah, a young Afghan who arrived in Paris in 2022, Welcome to Europe challenges stereotypes and xenophobia to unveil the truth behind immigration. Through public-viewing debates, the film sheds light on these realities and encourages a thoughtful and citizen-oriented debate, almost 80 years after the major waves of exile in the 20th century.
