Two senior Pakistani officials claimed on Wednesday that their country, as a mediator, had transmitted a fifteen-point plan to Iran containing proposals from the United States.
The Iranian state television, quoting an unidentified official, said on Wednesday, March 25, that Iran had rejected the peace plan proposed by the United States to end nearly a month of war.
“Iran reacted negatively to the American proposal,” Press TV, a public English-language channel aimed at a foreign audience, reported. “The war will end when Iran decides to end it, not when Trump decides,” it added, relaying the comments of the anonymous Iranian official.
No official statement to this effect has been issued so far, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who led Iran’s talks with the United States before the war, has not commented.
Iranian media, like Mehr and Tasnim agencies, have picked up this information from Press TV.
Earlier on Wednesday, two senior Pakistani officials stated that their country, as a mediator, had transmitted a fifteen-point plan to Iran containing proposals from the United States.
Five conditions
According to the Iranian official cited by Press TV, the Islamic Republic, on its part, sets five conditions for the cessation of hostilities, triggered on February 28 by Israeli-American strikes on Iran.
Among these, the end of “aggression and assassinations” against Iran and its leaders, the establishment of a solid mechanism guaranteeing Tehran the non-resumption (by Israel and the United States) of the war, as well as a scheme for compensation for the destruction caused, with a view to reconstruction.
These conditions also include a cessation of hostilities on all regional fronts, and towards all “resistance groups” – an implicit reference to the Lebanese Hezbollah in particular – and international recognition and guarantees of Iran’s rights to exercise its sovereignty over the strategic maritime route of the Strait of Hormuz, at the heart of the conflict.
