Eric Benet has denounced Chappell Roan and all the stars who do not appreciate their fans.
The singer was uncompromising towards the celebrities “who do not have the ‘elegance’ to be kind to their fans.
“One of the things that annoy or upset me the most are public figures or celebrities who do not have the elegance to take a photo with their fan, or to say hello. Or greet them if they see you in the street,” commented the 59-year-old artist. “If you are so offended by the fact that someone who adores you and supported your business recognizes you, I do not wish to know you.”
The R&B singer, who was married to actress Halle Berry from 2001 to 2005, emphasized that celebrities owe their success to the support of their fans. “They allowed you to resonate internationally. They allowed you to have this wealth,” he stressed. “All they want is for you to give them two seconds, you bunch of a**holes,” he added.
Eric Benet acknowledged that certain interactions with fans could occur at inappropriate times. “Of course, there are moments – maybe you are with your children, or you are sitting down to dinner, it is not the right time for someone to approach you and say, ‘Yo, take that salmon out of your mouth and take a photo with me’,” he joked. But for him, nothing excuses the “shitty behavior” of “certain celebrities” like “Chappell Roan,” he specified, pretending to cough.
The interpreter of “Sometimes I Cry” then suggested to fans not to support celebrities who do not love them back. “The fans of this star should collectively decide to shorten her of her suffering and difficulties towards wealth and celebrity by no longer watching her crap, no longer buying her crap, no longer supporting her crap,” he concluded.
Chappell Roan came under criticism this week after a security guard was accused of lashing out at a young fan who had spotted the 28-year-old singer in a hotel in Brazil. “She didn’t have her phone, she didn’t try to take a photo… She literally did nothing,” defended the child’s mother on her Instagram page.
The singer then responded by stating on social media that she did not notice this interaction and that the bodyguard was not part of her team. “I did not ask the security guard to go talk to that mother and her child,” Chappell Roan asserted on Instagram, adding that she did not even see the little girl approach her.
