Thursday morning, the Professional Football League (LFP), gathered in a board meeting, is set to decide on Paris Saint-Germain’s request to postpone their match against Lens, scheduled for April 11. This date doesn’t suit the Parisians well as it falls between their two confrontations against Liverpool in the Champions League quarter-finals.
This request raises questions about the fairness of the championship, especially when the Lens vs Paris match is supposed to be THE big moment in the final sprint for the title. Playing it in May, midweek, just before the last matchday with the risk of everything being settled, wouldn’t have the same significance. The Racing Club strongly opposes this perspective.
In addition, it’s simply part of the season’s challenges, and a team like PSG should be able to handle consecutive matches starting from March-April to meet their sporting goals. Their European successes benefit Ligue 1, but if it’s going to drain the competition of its essence in parallel, where is the interest?
