Trump wants to ban mail

In Florida, Donald Trump voted by mail despite advocating for restricting its use. A bulletin that did not go unnoticed. According to Palm Beach County voter records, confirmed by authorities, he used a ballot sent from his Mar-a-Lago address.

This choice comes as he pushes for electoral reform, including limiting this voting method. The American president prioritizes the “SAVE America Act,” a bill that aims to restrict access to voting by requiring citizenship proof to register and limiting mail-in voting.

At the same time, he continues to denounce mail-in voting as cheating. On Monday, he stated, “I call that mail-in cheating, and we need to do something about it.”

The White House circle confirms this vote but tries to downplay it. A spokesperson refers to it as a “non-issue,” noting that Trump lives in Washington but remains registered in Florida. The spokesperson also highlights exceptions in the president’s proposed reform, such as for travel, illness, or military service.

However, in this specific case, nothing compelled him to vote by mail since Trump was in Florida the weekend before the election, while in-person early voting (common in the U.S.) was still an option.

“Securing” elections In 2020, when asked about his own use of mail-in voting, he responded, “I can vote by mail. I have the right to.” Since his defeat this year, the Republican president claims, without evidence, that this voting method promotes massive fraud.

This theory is widely disputed. Several studies show that electoral fraud is extremely rare in the U.S., including for mail-in voting.

The “SAVE America Act” fits into this narrative. Supporters see it as “securing” elections, while critics argue it could complicate voting access for millions of Americans, especially those who do not easily have proof of citizenship and married women who have changed their last names.

This bill is currently being debated in the Senate.
