The University of Guelph has made significant achievements in the 2026 QS World University Rankings by Subject, placing in a record 15 subjects globally. The Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) is ranked number one in Canada and fourth globally, solidifying its reputation in veterinary science, research, and education. The University’s agriculture and forestry programs also excelled, ranking first in Canada and 14th globally. Additionally, the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) attracts students worldwide with its strength in food and agricultural science research.
In terms of reputation, OAC and OVC are ranked first in Canada for academic and employer reputation, as well as top five in research citations. The University of Guelph is now ranked in a total of 15 subjects globally, up from 12 in 2025, showing an impressive improvement since 2021. The Hospitality and Tourism Management program at the Gordon S. Lang School of Business and Economics is second in Canada and maintains a strong global presence.
New subjects added to the rankings this year include business and management studies, geophysics, and development studies, all performing well within the top 150 globally. A new course-based master’s program at the Guelph Institute of Development Studies will launch in fall 2026, focusing on education, research, and analysis to foster positive change globally. In environmental and biological sciences, as well as anatomy, the University of Guelph excels, ranking among the top 10 in Canada and globally.
Dr. Rene Van Acker, the president and vice-chancellor of the University, emphasized the importance of these rankings for students and the communities they serve. The Quacquarelli Symonds Rankings showcase the University’s reputation as a leading Canadian institution renowned for its teaching and research. QS analyzed university programs worldwide, highlighting the University of Guelph’s exceptional standing in various academic disciplines.
