President Trump confirms discussions with Iran
- The US President confirmed on Tuesday his statements from the previous day regarding talks with Tehran.
- He also specified that his envoy Steve Witkoff, son-in-law Jared Kushner, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were participating.
“What I said yesterday was exactly right,” Trump said from the White House, confirming that the US was indeed in discussions with Iran on the 25th day of the war engulfing the Middle East. “We are negotiating at the moment,” the American president stated, emphasizing that his envoy Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, Vice President JD Vance, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were involved in these discussions.
When asked by the press about the possibility of an agreement to end the war, Trump replied: “I think we will end it. I cannot tell you for sure.” However, he mentioned that Iranian leaders “want to reach an agreement.” “They did something yesterday that was actually great. They gave us a gift, and the gift arrived today. And it was a very big gift, the equivalent of a lot of money,” he added.
A “gift” in the Strait of Hormuz?
Pressed to clarify if this “gift” was related to the nuclear issue, the US president responded: “No, it was not about the nuclear (issue). It was about oil and gas.” “And it was a very nice thing they did, it showed me that we are dealing with the right people,” he emphasized. When asked if the Iranian “gift” was related to maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which has been blocked for several weeks, Trump confirmed, answering in the affirmative: “Yes, it was related to traffic and the strait.”
The day before, he had announced a “five-day” delay in the strikes he had planned to launch from Monday night on power plants and other infrastructure in Iran if the Islamic Republic did not release this strategic route for global hydrocarbon supply.

Subsequently, during an exchange with the press, he specified that Washington and Tehran had found “major points of agreement” in negotiations held, according to him, with a “high-ranking” leader who is not the new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei.
