Vietnam Ethnology Museum Contributes to Cultural Heritage Preservation
To materialize one of the key tasks identified at the XIV National Congress of the Party, the Political Bureau adopted a strategic resolution on the development of Vietnamese culture (Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW). This resolution highlights the fundamental principle that the development of culture and people is the foundation, an essential endogenous resource, and a powerful engine for the rapid and sustainable development of the country. With a spirit of action, Party committees at all levels, in all localities, and all units have quickly studied, understood, and translated the content of the resolution into concrete actions.
Considered a pillar of the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences (the Academy), the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (the Museum) focuses on shaping its own identity through its approach to modern ethnographic, anthropological, and museological theories, respecting cultural diversity and valuing the role of the community. Beyond its role in preserving and conserving artifacts, the Museum has emerged as a dynamic cultural institution, a space for intercultural dialogue, making in-depth research more accessible to the public through digital technologies and innovative thinking.
One of the fundamental missions of the Vietnamese Academy of Social Sciences is to examine theoretical and practical issues in the social sciences, including those related to the overall development of the Vietnamese people. These include national and ethnic values, family values, and the integration of the finest aspects of human culture and civilization, as well as urgent issues concerning ethnicity, religion, history, culture, literature, language, and psychology, to mobilize the nation’s vitality for nation-building and defense.
Within the strategic structure of the Academy, the Museum is one of the four main vectors of its influence, alongside high-level education offered by the Academy of Social Sciences, public policy advisory services provided by the Institute of Ethnology and Religions, the Institute of Philosophy, the Institute of Historical Research, and the Institute of Economic Research, the Social Sciences Publishing House and its scientific publications, and the Social Sciences Information Institute. While specialized research institutes are the “convergence points” of knowledge, the Museum ensures the dissemination of this knowledge to the general public.
Successfully implementing the strategic objectives outlined in the Politburo resolution, the Museum’s innovative research contributes to the advancement and development of advanced Vietnamese culture, rich in national identity, and the construction of a healthy cultural environment.
The Museum applies cutting-edge technological solutions to present exciting cultural exhibitions, fostering active engagement with the heritage of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam. Through digital initiatives and immersive experiences, the Museum plays a crucial role in preserving cultural heritage and promoting understanding across generations.
