For the 5th edition of the Canal du Midi Escales, Ventenac will once again be hosting a celebration with a program that highlights heritage, lifestyle, and sharing through completely free and open animations for everyone.
The village’s associations and active community members have decided to come together once again to make Ventenac one of the beautiful stops on this festive event. Initiated by Voies navigables France and the Canal Association, the event takes place in about twenty locations along the 240 km of the canal each first weekend of July. The goal is to showcase the heritage of the Canal du Midi and culture in a friendly atmosphere while connecting with all generations. The involvement of the association “Les Nouvelles Racines” has made the village a faithful participant from the very beginning of the famous Escales. This year, the celebrations will be part of the 30th anniversary of the inscription of the entire Canal du Midi on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
Currently, the event is already bringing together a variety of participants who will offer activities along the Canal and its surroundings. A preliminary program includes a free concert, historic documents and plans of the Canal displayed by “Les Nouvelles Racines,” ephemeral creations by artists and children, exhibitions, art workshops, birdwatching walks led by the “Godillots” team and an ornithologist, boat tours, wine cellar visits, local food tastings, petanque tournaments, and refreshments provided by the festival committee.
This program is not exhaustive and is subject to additions. An invitation is extended to all associations, groups, individuals, artisans, and artists who would like to be part of this weekend of sharing, meeting, and celebration along the Canal.
