After leading 3-1 at the 88th minute, the Castonétois were stunned by Anglet, ending the match 3-3 on Saturday, March 21st.
In this clash between fourth-placed teams at the start of the game and against a strong team in the group that had been deducted six points by the DNCG earlier in the season, Onet cracked towards the end of the match and only took home one point from their trip to the Basque coast. Yoan Boscus’ men would have gladly accepted this result before the game, but after it, disappointment dominated among the yellow and blue ranks.
“We played a huge, high-level match for 88 minutes, being much better than them. We were lacking five minutes, during which we cracked,” regretted the Aveyron coach, saddened by the final outcome. Despite conceding the opening goal after 20 minutes, Bobek and his teammates had responded perfectly after the break.
A thunderous start to the second half was seen with an equalizer thanks to Pouget and then taking the lead before the hour mark with a penalty converted by Cueye. The Castonétois’s momentum continued, with Durand seemingly sealing the match with a quarter of an hour left, but the last three minutes of regulation time were disastrous for the Aveyron side.
Daguerre, of the Basque team, revived hope for the locals, and in the following minute, his teammate Estève equalized, leaving the Castonétois stunned. A true disappointment based on the scenario for coach Boscus and his team. Especially considering that the leader Canet struggled on their home turf against the bottom team Cestas (0-0). OCF remains in fourth place, five points behind the top and still with a twelve-point lead over the first relegation spot with six matchdays remaining.
