Iran accused the United States and Israel on Saturday, March 21, of striking the Natanz nuclear site, as the Middle East conflict enters its fourth week of war. “Following the criminal attacks carried out by the United States and the usurping Zionist regime against our country, the Natanz enrichment complex was targeted this [Saturday] morning,” the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization stated, specifying that “no leakage of radioactive materials had been reported” in the area. Rafael Grossi, director of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), “informed by Iran” of this strike, called for “military restraint to avoid any risk of a nuclear accident.”
The goal of eliminating the Iranian nuclear threat has been openly declared by US President Donald Trump since the beginning of the offensive on February 28. The Israeli army, on the other hand, stated “not to be aware of a strike” on Natanz. Iran had previously accused the United States and Israel of striking this site in early March, at the beginning of the conflict. The site was also targeted by strikes in June 2025 during the 12-day war initiated by Israel.
Western countries suspect the Islamic Republic of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons, a claim it denies. Earlier, from Friday night to Saturday, Israeli strikes targeted several neighborhoods in Tehran and its outskirts as well as the major city of Isfahan in the center of the country. Attacks in the capital confirmed by the Israeli army, which stated they targeted “regime targets.”
