OpenAI will start displaying ads to all users of the free and Go versions of ChatGPT in the United States in the coming weeks, a company spokesperson told Reuters in an email statement. This decision was first reported by The Information.
OpenAI recently integrated Criteo, an advertising technology company that provides an interface for ad buying and targeting improvement, into its pilot ad project for the free and Go versions of ChatGPT in the US, Criteo said in a statement earlier this month.
Criteo reportedly asked advertisers to commit to spending between $50,000 and $100,000. OpenAI also informed advertisers that providing more text and visual ad variations could increase ad display frequency and improve performance, according to The Information.
According to Reuters, OpenAI is exploring advertising as a new revenue source due to the increased use of ChatGPT. The company aims to diversify its revenue streams as it faces rising infrastructure costs and increased competition in the generative AI field.
