Noam Moulet was born with a steering wheel in his hands.
The sport of motor racing represents the biggest passion of his life. For his first experience in the French maxi Sprint championship, the Catalan admits, “motor racing has been in my family for several generations”. It all started when his grandfather built a circuit in Castres. “From that moment on, he instilled in me the passion for racing. And it’s not about to leave me.”
He has been driving in Maxi Sprint since he was 17. But this year is a bit special, as it is his first in the French championship. “It’s different, especially in terms of speed. We lack a lot of engine power. But I am happy with what I have achieved this weekend.” No final for Noam Moulet this weekend, but the Castres native, who now lives between Toulouse and Cérét, reacts to this disappointment with a lot of maturity. “It’s another step. I learn a lot, and we must continue like this, while improving performance.” When he is not behind the wheel of his car, he is doing an internship at an engineering school, specializing in aerodynamics. “I wanted to turn my passion into my profession, and this internship pushes me in that direction.”
The young driver is studying in Toulouse. But he is a true lover of the Catalan region. “Every little vacation period I have, I try to come here. It’s a region that I really adore.” Sometimes nicknamed “Nono”, he does not want to give up his studies. “It’s a huge amount of work, especially in the evenings. But I manage to juggle between the two.” Motor racing is an expensive passion. The maintenance of the vehicle, the travel expenses… “It really depends on the teams. Some can afford to put on a new set of tires for each race. Others do 2-3 races with the same set. Overall, between 3,000 and 5,000 euros, you can complete a season.”
Even though he is only 20 years old, Noam thinks about his future. He would like to start a family. “Of course, for my children, they will be free to choose what they like. But knowing my family, I think they will have a steering wheel in their hands sooner or later.”
