Ligue 1: Pierre Sage assures he will stay at RC Lens next season

Invited to Téléfoot this Sunday morning, RC Lens coach Pierre Sage assured that he would still be at the club next season.

This news should please Lens supporters. Pierre Sage, the RC Lens coach who is currently second in Ligue 1 behind Paris SG and winner of the Coupe de France, confirmed on Sunday in the Téléfoot show that he would remain on the bench of the northern club next season.

Asked in a yes/no question, he answered “yes” to whether he would remain the coach of Lens to compete in the next Champions League. The former Lyon coach saw his stock rise significantly thanks to an impressive first season in the mining basin (second in Ligue 1, the club’s first Coupe de France title).

Interest from Crystal Palace

“I think Pierre Sage will continue. Now, Pierre, like any player from Racing Club de Lens, are highly sought after,” said Sang et Or President Joseph Oughourlian on Saturday. “We won’t go crazy and we won’t pay salaries that don’t match what we have set at the club,” he continued the day after the Coupe de France final victory against Nice (3-1).

The 47-year-old coach’s profile, who has mentioned “numerous contacts,” is drawing interest from several English clubs, notably Crystal Palace, according to the press. When asked about his potential desires for the Premier League, Sage revealed to Téléfoot his dream of one day coaching Liverpool.

The Artois club expects to let go of several players during this summer’s transfer market: Malang Sarr, who is out of contract, as well as emerging talents Samson Baidoo and Mamadou Sangaré, or even Allan Saint-Maximin could leave.
