NUCLEAR, ORMUZ… WHAT THE AGREEMENT COULD CONTAIN

The United States and Iran are seeking to finalize an agreement on Sunday after announcing a breakthrough in their discussions to end the war, with Donald Trump mentioning a “largely negotiated” compromise that would involve the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

According to American media, this agreement would allow ships to sail through Hormuz again, a vital strait for the global economy, and would ease the sanctions on Iran. However, the thorny issue of nuclear power would be left for future negotiations.

PAKISTAN’S REACTION

Pakistan, mediating the conflict between Iran and the United States, hopes to host a new peace negotiation session between representatives of both countries “very soon,” Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Twitter.

I congratulate President Donald Trump on his extraordinary efforts to pursue peace and for holding a very useful and productive telephone call earlier today, with the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkiye, Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Pakistan. LEBANON

The Lebanese Civil Defense announced on Sunday morning that its center in Nabatiyeh, in the south of the country, had been destroyed by an Israeli strike, despite the ceasefire in place since April 17.

The regional center of the Civil Defense in Nabatiyeh was “directly hit by a hostile Israeli strike,” causing the complete collapse of the building and damaging a large number of vehicles and equipment, the Civil Defense General Directorate said in a statement.

An agreement to end the war between the United States and Iran was “largely negotiated,” said Donald Trump on Saturday evening. However, it remains “pending finalization” between the two countries, following Tehran also reporting a breakthrough in the negotiations.

The agreement project includes the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, as affirmed by the American president on his Truth Social platform.

He mentioned having a call with leaders from several Gulf states, as well as Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, and Pakistan.

The American president also declared discussing with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a “special” call. American media have reported diverging strategies between Donald Trump and his Israeli ally in recent days, with the former pushing for a diplomatic solution while the latter would prefer to resume combat.
