The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmaeil Baghaei, stated on Saturday, May 23, that Iran was in the “finalization phase” of an agreement with the United States to permanently end the war in the Middle East.

Speaking to the Iranian state television Irib, he explained that Tehran wanted to “first draft an agreement” consisting of 14 clauses. “We are currently finalizing these agreements,” he said.

According to Esmaeil Baghaei, recent discussions with Washington also show “a trend towards reconciliation” after several rounds of bilateral talks.

However, the Iranian spokesperson clarified that the nuclear issue was “not part, at this stage,” of the ongoing negotiations with the United States. He also assured that the lifting of the American blockade was among the elements included in the current agreement being discussed between the two countries.

Marco Rubio hopes for “good news”

Meanwhile, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Saturday that there was “a chance” of quickly reaching an agreement with Iran to end the regional conflict.

“It is possible that later today, tomorrow, or in a few days, we will have information to share,” said the U.S. foreign minister to journalists in New Delhi, expressing caution but hoping for “good news.”

These statements come as tensions remain high in the Middle East, despite diplomatic efforts made in recent weeks between Tehran and Washington.
