Author of a fantastic season at the helm of RC Lens, punctuated by the Coupe de France title on Friday, Pierre Sage stated that he wants to honor his contract while acknowledging numerous contacts with other clubs. This Saturday, Joseph Oughourlian stated that the 47-year-old coach should stay.

A dream first season. Under contract with RC Lens until 2028, Pierre Sage had a brilliant first season leading the team, who competed with PSG in Ligue 1 before clinching their first Coupe de France title in history on Friday with a 3-1 victory over Nice.

This made him a highly coveted man. When asked by France Télévisions about his presence on the Lens bench next season as the club competes in the Champions League, the former coach first said “there is no reason for it to change.” However, he then cast doubt by saying, “I confess that there are a lot of contacts. After all, I am under contract, but I will try to honor it. I am very happy at this club.”

“We won’t be reckless.” This Saturday, Joseph Oughourlian was asked about the future of the 47-year-old coach with a unique trajectory. “I think Pierre will continue with the club,” stated the Lens director to several media outlets including RMC Sport. “Now, Pierre like any player at RC Lens is highly sought after. We won’t make reckless decisions and we won’t pay salaries that don’t align with what we have set for the club.”

Throughout the season, Pierre Sage clearly displayed his ambitions as Lens remained in the title race with PSG. Also voted the best Ligue 1 coach at the UNFP Awards, he was delighted with his first season at the northern club. “I am very surprised by what I am experiencing at the moment. In fact, when we were on the podium during the trophy presentation, I asked two or three colleagues, do you realize where we are?” he stated on Friday before joining the huge celebration with his players and supporters.
